General Prosecutor's Office of South Ossetia: 3500 suffered from war with Georgia

The State Office of Public Prosecutor of South Ossetia has recognized about 3500 persons to be victims of the armed conflict with Georgia in August 2008. This was stated by Taimuraz Khugaev, General Public Prosecutor of South Ossetia, at the international seminar, held in Essentuki on March 24-26, on the problems of fighting crime, law enforcement activities and development of criminal and criminal-procedural legislation.

According to Mr Khugaev, all the victims figure in one criminal case initiated under the article of genocide. He has also noted that soon the European commission set up in Switzerland should present its vision of the armed conflict between South Ossetia and Georgia.

The Prosecutor said that the investigation bodies of South Ossetia "are unequivocally finding personally President of Georgia and a number of other persons guilty of unleashing genocide."
