124 complaints sent to European Court from Rostov Region

The number of complaints sent from the town of Zverevo, Rostov Region, to the European Court on Human Rights, has already reached 124. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by Valery Dyakonov, deputy of the municipal duma of Zverevo.

"We've sent several parcels of 20-30 complaints in each," said Mr Dyakonov. "In relation to miners-pensioners, the authorities have breached the article of the European Convention on Human Rights, which guarantees enforcement of judicial decisions."

The Mayoralty of Zverevo was sceptical towards the information about the complaints sent to Strasbourg. A source in the city administration, who preferred to remain anonymous, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that "a stable situation is maintained in the city. A big question is whether the protesters had really sent their complaints to Strasbourg; to do so, they had to reach the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation first."

According to Valery Dyakonov, "in our cases there is no need to have decisions of the Supreme Court. There is a precedent - a positive decision of the European Court on the complaint "Burdov versus Russia" dealing with non-fulfilment of a judicial decision."

The number of complaints lodged by Zverevo residents to Strasbourg can go up. According to Mr Dyakonov, 1640 persons, who have non-enforced judicial decisions in their hands, plan to address the Court.
