Chechens in Kirgizia complain of dissocial treatment

Representatives of the Chechen Diaspora in Kirgizia - activists of the Chechen cultural center "Bart" - complained of xenophobia at a recent meeting with Russian ambassador Yevgeny Shmagin. According to the center's head, officials of law-enforcement organs, local authorities, and some journalists often treat Chechens with biliousness.

Several thousands of Chechens were deported to Kirgizia in 1944. 5-6 thousand issues of the deported have lived here till recently. For the last several years the number of Chechens in the republic has increased up to 15 thousand people at the expense of resettlers escaping from the war.

The Chechen cultural center "Bart" in Kirgizia, which was organized in January 2001, is a member of the Assembly of Kirgizia's Nations.
