Supreme Court of Dagestan sentences Farid Babaev's killer to 16 years of imprisonment

Today Ibram Garunov, Judge of the Supreme Court of Dagestan,  has announced his verdict to Rasil Mamedrizaev, a resident of Miskindzha village, Dokuzparin District of Dagestan, suspected of murdering Farid Babaev. The court has supported the prosecution and appointed a punishment in the form of 16 years of tight security colony.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that after announcement of the verdict, when militiamen were escorting Mamedrizaeva out of the courtroom, he tried to cry out something to the state accuser and Farid Babaev's brother who were sitting nearby.

Suleiman Azuev, Rasil Mamedrizaev's advocate, has stated that the defence would for sure appeal against the verdict, since he finds it too heavy.

"The verdict is subject to cancellation as unreasonable," advocate Azuev said. "The defence will appeal against it by all means. The materials of the case lack any linking evidences, which confirm the guilt not only of Seferali Sefimirzoev, who was acquitted, but also of Rasil Mamedrizaev. We have a conviction that the Supreme Court of Russia will cancel this verdict, and a new consideration, as we hope, will yield a more objective verdict."
