President of Ingushetia meets human rights activists

On November 25, in the city of Magas, President of the Republic of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Evkurov held a meeting with representatives of a number of NGOs, namely, the "Mashr" Human Rights Organization, Regional Public Movement "Chechen Committee of National Salvation", regional representative office of the HRC "Memorial" and the Associations of Ingushetian Students.

The participants of the meeting, which lasted for more than three hours, discussed the most pressing issues that cause concern in the public and population of the Republic, mainly those related to the revelry of terrorism and frequent illegitimate actions of power agents and law enforcers; sometimes inadequate attitude of the authorities to human rights organizations, runs the press release of the "Chechen Committee for National Salvation".

The President of Ingushetia has agreed in many respects with the estimates given by human rights activists and told about his priority measures aimed at normalization of the situation in the Republic. In particular, he plans to set up a commission under the President on observance of human rights and a commission for inquiry into kidnappings and disappearances. He intends to put restrictions of the actions of power agencies from other Russian regions, and, as a consequence, to speed up the work of local power structures.

Besides, the meeting has discussed the issue of mitigating the consequences of the 1992 Ossetian-Ingush conflict. The President has declared that he will strive for the return of forced migrants to the Prigorodny District of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania and prohibition of the extremist utterances aimed at kindling of interethnic enmity.
