Mustafa Batdyev assumed office of President of Karachaevo-Cherkessia

Mustafa Batdyev assumed office of the President of Karachaevo-Cherkessia on Tuesday.

At the enlarged meeting of the People's Assembly (the parliament) of Karachaevo-Cherkessia in Cherkessk, Chairman of the Republican Election Commission of Karachaevo-Cherkessia Safar Geryukov announced the results of the second round of the presidential election, which had been held on August 31, and handed over the certificate of the president of the republic to the former Republican National Bank's CEO Mustafa Batdyev, reported a correspondent of the Interfax-South Agency.

"The complex situation in the republic urges me to take up the duties of the republic's president", declared Mustafa Batdyev after his adjuration. He also said that the official inauguration would be held on September 10.

Former president of Karachaevo-Cherkessia Vladimir Semyonov did not attend the meeting.

Mustafa Batdyev won 47.97% of vote in the second round of the presidential election, Semyonov - 46.41%.

67.51% of the voters included into electoral rolls took part in the presidential election in Karachaevo-Cherkessia.

Meanwhile, Semyonov's supporters have been holding an unsanctioned meeting in front of the building of the Election Commission of Karachaevo-Cherkessia for three days. They demand that the election's results be reversed.
