President of Nicaragua declares recognition of South Ossetia's and Abkhazia's independence

President of Nicaragua Daniel Ortega has expressed his support to Russia in seeking the solution of the conflict in the Caucasus through a dialogue with European countries and has declared his recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

We remind you that on August 26 President of the Russian Federation Dmitri Medvedev signed decrees on Russia's recognition of South Ossetia's and Abkhazia's independence.

"Reasons of the conflict in the Caucasus are in hegemonic aspirations of some countries, which try to cordon Russia," Mr Ortega has stated when addressing the country's militaries on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the Nicaraguan Army.

President of Nicaragua has accused NATO countries that they "bring threat to peace on the Earth," the RIA "Novosti" reports. The Nicaraguan leader reminded in his speech that in the past South Ossetia and Abkhazia had been parts of the USSR as autonomies.

In Mr Ortega's opinion, "Russia had no other way but to render military and political support to Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the face of permanent threats from Georgia."

Valery Bobrov, counsellor-envoy of Russian embassy in Managua, said on air of the "Echo Moskvy" Radio that "according to local media, yesterday, on September 2, speaking at the holiday on Nicaraguan Army's anniversary, president Daniel Ortega declared that his government would recognize South Ossetia's and Abkhazia's independence." News items about Nicaragua's recognition of independence of these republics were also promulgated by the News Agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
