Leader of Board of Elders of Balkar People beaten again in Nalchik

Today, about 2 p.m. in Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, an attack was made on Oyus Gurtuev, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board of Elders of Balkar People (BEBP). The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it at the BEBP.

"The attack took place near house No. 28 in Tarchokov Street. Oyus Gurtuev has lacerated wounds on his legs and a crack of a foot. He was hospitalized," informed the BEBP.

Oyus Gurtuev said by telephone that two men came up to him right in the street and started beating in silence.

A crowd of people has rallied at the office of the Board of Elders. They are all indignant with what happened and are going to hold a protest action near the House of Government.

We remind you that it was not the first attack on Mr Gurtuev. On July 24 this year in Nalchik, Gurtuev was also attacked by unidentified persons. Two strong young men attacked him in the doorway and started beating him silently with baseball bats.

A criminal case was initiated on the fact of that attack on attributes of the crime stipulated by point "a", part 2, Article 115 of Russian Criminal Code ("Deliberate causing light harm to one's health on hooligan motives"), however, nothing is known on the results of investigation.

Then, Mr Gurtuev did not exclude that the attack could be a provocation. "Someone tries to use the fact that the Board of Elders is in opposition to the authorities and wants to link this event with my political activities," he said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Let us note here that the Magistrate Court of Nalchik, presided by Judge Fatima Bagova, hold hearing of the criminal case against Oyus Gurtuev accused of slander. Mr Gurtuev relates his criminal prosecution with the public activities of him and the organization he heads.
