Fazil Iskander: any idea of new war in Abkhazia is disgusting

The famous Russian writer Fazil Iskander is confident that there will be no new war in Abkhazia. He told about it in his TV appeal to his compatriots broadcast today by the Abkhazian television.

The writer indicates that "the main thing has happened - Russia has recognized Abkhazia, and henceforth Abkhazia should develop as a normal, humane and democratic state, and everyone who lives in Abkhazia - not only Abkhazians, but also all other nationals including Georgians, should live in peace."

In the writer's opinion, "not only in the Caucasus, but elsewhere in the world, political tricks and deceptions originate from peoples' rulers." "Bad rulers intuitively feel that they can do nothing good for their people, and then they try, in the meanest possible way, to set up a sort of military hysteria aiming to postpone the real job of rulers of all countries - improving human existence," Mr Iskander has emphasized. But the aggression, as he said, "is always an attempt to hide that the ruler is unable to do anything for his people."

For reference: Fazil Iskander was born in Sukhumi in 1929. He lost his father rather early who was deported outside the USSR. Fazil was reared by his mother's (Abkhazian) relatives. Has left for Moscow to study, and remained there forever. Mr Iskander is a laureate of a number of prestigious national and foreign literary awards.
