A parent complained about the dilapidated school in Dagestan's Aksai.

The school building in the village of Aksai in the Khasavyurt district is collapsing, the windows in the classrooms are drafty, and due to the lack of water, children cannot even wash their hands after using the toilet. Appeals to the authorities have not yielded results, complained a parent.

A video of the dilapidated school in the village of Aksai in the Khasavyurt district of Dagestan was published today by the Telegram channel Mash Gor. The footage shows the dilapidated school building: peeling plaster, damaged walls, old windows, and roof are visible from the outside. Inside the building, the videographer showed cracks, worn doors and window frames, peeling paint, old floors, and heating pipes. The school toilet was shown separately, with damaged finishes and unsatisfactory conditions.

"Almost 800 children study in the crumbling 200-year-old school in the village of Aksai. The authorities have been promising for years to build them a new one," the video description says.

The walls and ceiling of the building could collapse, and the windows are so drafty that they are covered with cardboard in winter, while the children sit in class wearing jackets, said a local resident, a parent of one of the students. According to her, the doors in the school do not close due to multiple layers of paint, and there is no water even in the cafeteria.

"The children take a bottle of water; we give the children a bottle with water. And you think about what the sanitation and hygiene will be like for the children. What can we even talk about when the children can't even wash their hands after using the toilet, they have nowhere to wash their hands," she said.

There is no equipped schoolyard or gym, so children run outside instead of doing sports, the parent reported. There is also no separate room for school-wide events, so New Year and Teacher's Day are celebrated in classrooms. The textbooks are in extremely worn condition, she added.

As of 12:40 Moscow time, there are no comments on the website of the Khasavyurt district administration regarding the local resident's complaint about the condition of the school in the village of Aksai.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that residents of Dagestan periodically complain about dilapidated and unsuitable schools for studying. For example, on September 9, residents of the village of Gyukhrag complained that children study in a private house, where they were transferred after the old school was declared emergency. In January 2024, residents of Shynaz reported about classes in a dilapidated and cold building. Local resident Nigar Shahbanova noted that children sit in class wearing jackets.
