In Georgia, a woman has been detained for forcing her underage granddaughter to marry a fellow villager.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on September 13, seven people were detained in Georgia in a case of kidnapping a girl to force her into marriage.

In Kvemo Kartli, a local resident has been detained, accused of forcing a minor family member into marriage, writes "Georgia-Online" on September 28.

According to the police, the accused forced her underage granddaughter to marry a fellow villager against her will. The investigation is being conducted under Article 11, Part 150, of the Criminal Code, which provides for imprisonment for up to four years.

In Georgia, the problem of forced and early marriages is relevant. In November 2019, after a case of kidnapping a 15-year-old girl, NGOs in Georgia proposed to introduce programs in schools to prevent early marriages.
