The incident with the tourist on the bungee in the Sulak Canyon caused a stir online.

Instructors forced a tourist to jump from a bungee in the Sulak Canyon, despite her refusal and resistance. Social media users criticized the actions of the instructors while commenting on the video of the incident. The incident became another episode related to safety issues in tourist entertainment in Dagestan.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", residents of Dagestan and tourists have repeatedly raised the issue of the need for increased control over safety compliance by the owners of local facilities providing tourist services. On September 2, a 41-year-old tourist from Moscow stated that the instructors pushed her off the platform of the bungee over the Sulak Canyon, even though she asked them not to do so. After the jump, the woman was unable to speak, her arms and legs weakened, and her reflexes disappeared; doctors diagnosed her with a spinal cord bruise.

The instructors ignored the tourist's refusal to jump into the canyon

The video showing how instructors forcibly dropped the tourist on the bungee was published today by the Telegram channel Mash Gor.

In the video, the woman in the harness stands on a metal platform over the gorge. At least two men are next to her, one of whom is holding or directing the safety equipment. The woman noticeably resists moving to the edge of the platform, holding onto the railing and stepping back several times.

"Just don’t throw me," she asked one of the instructors.

Next, the instructor wrapped his arms around her and dragged her to the edge of the platform. "Please don’t," the tourist screamed. "No, no," she shouted. But the instructor does not listen to her pleas and continues to pull her to the edge of the platform.

The woman braced her feet against the floor, and a second instructor approached her, pressing on her leg from behind, bending it at the knee, and forcing her to sit on the edge of the platform. She hung in the harness over the gorge. Then the edge of the platform automatically tilted, and the tourist slipped into the gorge.

In the second part of the video, another fragment of the same episode is shown: the woman is again in the harness, spreading her arms, trying to step away from the edge of the platform. She screams loudly, resisting, and grabs the arm of one of the men who is off-camera. She asks him to intervene in the situation.

However, she is also seated on the edge of the platform. "That’s it, you’re seated. Sit still," said the person filming the video.

Commentators considered the instructors' behavior excessive

This video on the Telegram channel Mash Gor, which has over 44,000 subscribers, had 2,201 views and 36 comments by 14:20 MSK. Some of the authors stated that they were impressed by the woman's intense fear. "Wow, she’s having a panic attack... I watched it," wrote Anzor T.

"Four of them clung to her, barely pushed her off," wrote a user with the nickname A.

"These instructors are also overdoing it, as if they are heroes," pointed out Abuvakkas.

Other users criticized the tourist's husband for not intervening. "The instructors are one thing, they are strangers, but the husband... he saw this panic," noted Fatia.

"The woman is scared to death. She is in shock. And the men find it funny. Especially the husband, who didn’t even stand up for her. [Vividly expressive statement], not a husband. Usually, women like that divorce at that moment," stated user Historypoliticus.

"Was the husband filming and laughing? That’s harsh," wrote Alexey.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that safety issues in tourist services in Dagestan have repeatedly led to various incidents that caused widespread resonance. In particular, on August 12, a boat with tourists in the Sulak Canyon crashed into a rock and sank: one passenger died, and eight others required medical assistance. Social media users demanded that the authorities address the issue of tourist safety.

On April 30, 2025, a tourist from Nizhny Novgorod died after falling from an unguarded cliff at a recreation center in Irgana. On April 28 of the same year, a tourist from the Yaroslavl region died during a boat trip in the Sulak Canyon, and four others were injured.

Earlier, on July 22, 2022, a family of four died after a car fell into a canyon near Khunzakh. And in July 2021, two tourists fell into a ravine from faulty swings at the Sulak Canyon. They avoided serious injuries thanks to a rock ledge before the cliff.
