Opposition Georgian politician Elene Khoshtaria, convicted for damaging a campaign poster of Kakhaber Kaladze, returned to the Rustavi prison after the first stage of treatment from the "Vivamed" clinic.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on June 27 it became known that the leader of the "Droa" party, Elene Khoshtaria, who has been in custody for ten months on charges of damaging Kakhaber Kaladze's campaign poster, is seriously ill. The administration of the penitentiary institution agreed to allow a doctor to see her. On June 30, the Penitentiary Service of Georgia allowed Khoshtaria to be transferred to the "Vivamed" clinic for examination and treatment.

Elene Khoshtaria reported on September 27 that she is returning from the "Vivamed" clinic back to the Rustavi prison, as the first stage of her treatment is completed, writes "Georgia-online" on September 27, citing Khoshtaria's message on social media.

The politician added that the second stage of treatment will take place both in prison and at "Vivamed". "I will go to the clinic once a month to receive medication and undergo check-ups," Khoshtaria noted.

It should be recalled that on March 24, a court in Tbilisi sentenced the founder of the "Droa" party, Elene Khoshtaria, to 1.5 years of imprisonment, finding her guilty of damaging the campaign banner of Tbilisi Mayor and Secretary General of the "Georgian Dream" Kakhaber Kaladze. Khoshtaria left the inscription: "Russian Dream" on the campaign banner of the candidate for mayor of Tbilisi from the "Georgian Dream" Kakhaber Kaladze during a protest in September 2025, who still holds this position. According to the prosecution, the substance used to make the inscription damaged the poster so much that it could not be restored.

Protest participants in Georgia, who have been demanding new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners since November 28, 2024, have repeatedly expressed support for Khoshtaria and called for her release.
