A resident of Kabardino-Balkaria was convicted of financing extremists.

The court sentenced a resident of Nalchik to three years of conditional imprisonment for transferring money to an extremist organization.

According to the court and investigation, in August 2021, a 51-year-old resident of Nalchik transferred funds to a non-profit organization. Investigators claim that he knowingly knew that its activities were banned by the court in Russia and recognized as extremist.

The Nalchik City Court issued a guilty verdict against the man, found guilty of committing a crime under part 1 of article 282.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (financing extremist activities), the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kabardino-Balkaria reported today on their Telegram channel.

The article provides for a maximum punishment of three to eight years of imprisonment. However, the court issued a more lenient sentence, assigning him a punishment of three years of conditional imprisonment with a probation period of one year.

"The illegal activities of the individual were stopped by the employees of the Center for Countering Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kabardino-Balkar Republic and the FSB of Russia for the KBR," the agency's message states.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in April, employees of the Center for Countering Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kabardino-Balkaria reported the detention of a 31-year-old local resident in a case of financing an extremist organization.
