The leader of the "Prosperous Armenia" party, businessman Gagik Tsarukyan, considered the extension of his arrest for another two months to be expected.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", businessman and leader of the opposition party "Prosperous Armenia" Gagik Tsarukyan was suspected of tax evasion involving the "Ararat" brandy factory. The defense called the case absurd, as Tsarukyan has transferred all his businesses to management since 2003, when he was elected to the National Assembly. On August 6, a new charge was brought against Tsarukyan under articles on extortion and legalization of property obtained by criminal means. On September 4, the arrest term was extended for two months. In early August, law enforcement detained former parliament member Argam Abramyan - the son of former Prime Minister Ovik Abramyan and the son-in-law of the leader of "Prosperous Armenia" Gagik Tsarukyan. Abramyan is suspected of organizing a murder.

A letter from the leader of "Prosperous Armenia" Gagik Tsarukyan from the pre-trial detention center "Kentron" was published today by News.am.

"Yesterday the court decided that I should remain in custody for another two months. It was decided, so be it. To say that I had other expectations would be unserious?" — the publication quotes his words.

Tsarukyan emphasized that freedom is "to build something in your own country, to hold the honor of your country high in the world."

"Right now I am deprived of these opportunities. On the ring of Solomon the Wise, it was written: 'And this too shall pass.' Of course, it will pass," he pointed out, thanking everyone who supports him.

The "Caucasian Knot" also reported that Tsarukyan's party "Prosperous Armenia" along with other opposition political parties previously issued a statement about the illegitimacy of the authorities and plans to seek their removal.
