The authorities of Ingushetia announced restrictions for wedding convoys after a high-profile traffic accident.

The authorities, together with the Council of Elders of Ingushetia, promised to limit the number of cars in wedding convoys and strengthen control over compliance with traffic rules after an accident that resulted in three fatalities.

"The Caucasian Knot" reported that in July, a court in the Nazran district sentenced two local residents to 15 days, one of whom fired a gun at a wedding, while the other made dangerous maneuvers in a car as part of the convoy.

The elders and authorities of Ingushetia, following a meeting in Magas, decided to jointly develop new measures to prevent traffic accidents involving wedding convoys, a source from RBC in the press service of the head and government of the republic reported.

"Mahmud-Ali Kalimatov discussed the problem of traffic rule violations separately with the Council of Elders. The elders spoke about cases where participants in wedding convoys do not comply with the requirements of traffic police officers, use cars with tinted windows, exceed speed limits, and create a threat to other road users," the official said. According to him, the regional leader Mahmud-Ali Kalimatov emphasized that the issue of safety should be addressed not only by strengthening the work of law enforcement agencies.

As a result of the discussion, it was decided to prepare specific proposals for regulating the movement of wedding convoys, including limiting the number of cars and ensuring compliance with traffic rules.

The discussion was prompted by an accident on August 24 at the Kanteyshevsky intersection, which involved participants of a wedding convoy. At that time, the driver of a "Mercedes" lost control. As a result, the car veered off the road and crashed into a tree. Two people died at the scene, and two others were injured, as reported by "Interfax" citing the republican Ministry of Emergency Situations. As clarified by the republican hospital, another girl died from her injuries in the medical facility.

"The Caucasian Knot" has repeatedly reported on incidents involving gunfire at weddings in the republics of the North Caucasus. For instance, on July 12, a video circulated on social media showing an 86-year-old resident of Khasavyurt firing into the air with a pistol at her grandson's wedding. Residents of Dagestan, commenting on the video of this scene, deemed the use of weapons inappropriate.

In March 2023, a resident of Nalchik was punished for shooting at a wedding. In January of the same year, at the border of North Ossetia and Ingushetia, participants of a wedding convoy fired into the air near a police post, and the police did not attempt to stop them.

In August 2022, security forces detained a guest from Kabardino-Balkaria in Vladikavkaz, who fired four times with blank-firing weapons at a wedding. In October 2020, 22 drivers of a wedding convoy were detained in Kabardino-Balkaria for making dangerous maneuvers on the road and firing into the air.
