The Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery has suspended operations after a drone attack.

The oil refinery near Novoshakhtinsk was damaged during a nighttime drone attack on the Rostov region. The enterprise has suspended operations.

According to the governor of the Rostov region Yuri Slyusary, last night drones attacked Gukovo, Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, Novoshakhtinsk, as well as the Kamensky, Tarasovsky, and Rodionovo-Nesvetaysky districts. Air defense forces neutralized about 30 drones.

"As a result of the nighttime enemy attack on the Rostov region, the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery was damaged. The enterprise has temporarily suspended operations," Slyusary wrote today on his Telegram channel.

In Novoshakhtinsk, four private houses were damaged: windows were shattered, roofs and doors were damaged. In the Kamensky district, a forest caught fire over an area of 4.5 hectares. In the Krasnosulinsky district, dry grass caught fire. There are no casualties, the governor added.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery has repeatedly been subjected to drone attacks. For instance, on August 21, 2025, after a drone attack, a fire occurred at the plant, which was extinguished on August 26. On June 6, 2024, after a drone attack, a fire also occurred at the enterprise, and the plant's operations were suspended.

It is worth noting that against the backdrop of drone attacks on oil refineries, including those located in southern Russia, a fuel crisis has emerged. The fuel problem has caused a sharp increase in demand for the installation of gas cylinder equipment. In auto service centers, customer queues have stretched for several months ahead, and the cost of equipment has nearly doubled.

Analysts previously noted that the long wait forces motorists to turn to "gray" installers who do not guarantee the safety of the equipment.

At the same time, analysts believe that the mass installation of gas equipment will not help overcome the fuel crisis, as the necessary infrastructure is still lacking.

Creating such infrastructure in a short time is impossible, said Alexander Frolov, deputy director general of the National Energy Institute. "However, the current crisis is a good reason to remember the programs that already exist but are developing much slower than planned," he noted.

Leading analyst of the National Energy Security Fund Igor Yushkov suggested that the mass transition of drivers to gas will not become a long-term trend. In his opinion, after the fuel problem is resolved and queues at gas stations disappear, the excitement around the installation of gas equipment will decline.
