A tourist from Cherkessk was attacked in Abkhazia

Recidivist Akhra Kvekvesskiri beat a resident of Cherkessk near a cafe in Sukhumi, the victim has been hospitalized. The attacker was supposed to be under house arrest on charges of kidnapping, and now he has been sent to a pre-trial detention center.

In Abkhazia, a 37-year-old resident of Cherkessk, who came to the republic for vacation, was attacked. The woman was beaten in Sukhumi.

The incident occurred near the "Nemo" cafe on the Kodori highway. A 36-year-old local resident, Akhra Kvekvesskiri, approached the tourist and attacked her. The victim was diagnosed with a concussion, Mash Gor reported on August 12.

“The man struck the woman multiple times. She was hospitalized with various injuries, including lacerations to the face. According to the victim's relatives, people visited the woman in the hospital, asking her not to contact law enforcement and to leave Abkhazia as soon as possible,” notes the Telegram channel Baza.

The attack on the Russian woman was commented on by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Abkhazia, Robert Kiut. He stated that the resident of Abkhazia who attacked the tourist from Cherkessk “will be punished to the fullest extent of the law,” TASS reports.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Abkhazia, in turn, reported that the incident occurred on August 2, but Akhra Kvekvesskiri could only be detained by August 11. On that day, the Sukhumi City Court sent him to a pre-trial detention center on charges of intentionally causing moderate harm to health out of hooligan motives, as well as making threats to kill.

At the time of the crime, “Kvekvesskiri violated the previously chosen measure of restraint in the form of house arrest, being a defendant in a criminal case of kidnapping, extortion, robbery, and illegal possession of firearms,” the message published by the official Telegram channel of the department states.

Later, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Abkhazia also stated that law enforcement had taken additional security measures due to the peak of the resort season and had increased patrols in popular tourist areas.

The attack on the tourist from Cherkessk in Abkhazia did not cause as much resonance as the incident with Russian-speaking tourists in Kakheti, after which residents of Russia on social media called for a boycott of trips to Georgia. The case of Georgy Chigladze is still being discussed on social media almost a month after the incident, where some commentators suggest he apologize for hitting the Russian-speaking tourist.
