Four people were injured when the elevator fell in a high-rise building in Makhachkala.

In a multi-apartment building in Makhachkala, an elevator fell with nine people inside. Four men were hospitalized with broken legs. Local authorities reported that the building was constructed in 2021 with violations and has not yet been accepted onto the municipal balance.

The incident occurred on the evening of August 8 at house 27 on Elza Ibragimova Street.

This raises questions about the legality of using the elevator equipment and its technical condition, reported the State Housing Inspection of Dagestan on its Telegram channel.

The State Housing Inspection also reported that the cause of the fall could have been the overload of the elevator, which had nine people inside, exceeding the permissible load standards.

The version of overload was also confirmed by the Makhachkala administration on its Telegram channel. Local authorities noted that this residential complex is one of the "problematic multi-apartment buildings that underwent technical inspection by the FAU "RosKapStroy". "These buildings were constructed with violations of technical standards or without the necessary documents," the administration's message states.

The Ministry of Health of Dagestan reported on its Telegram channel that the injured are in moderately severe condition, and doctors are currently treating them.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident under part 1 of article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (provision of services that do not meet safety requirements for the life and health of consumers), writes "Lenta.ru" citing the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Dagestan.

Earlier, "Caucasian Knot" reported that in August last year, residents of the new residential complex "Coliseum" in Volgograd complained about the poor condition of the elevators, and the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, ordered to investigate the violation of the rights of the residents of the building.
