A resident of Kuban has been sentenced to a long term for treason.

The court sentenced Denis Popov to 25 years in prison for treason. According to the court, he provided representatives of the organization "Artpodgotovka"* with information about military ships in Novorossiysk.

According to the court, Denis Popov became a supporter of the organization "Artpodgotovka"* in May 2020, sharing its ideas and goals aimed at the violent change of state power and the violent alteration of the constitutional order.

In November of the same year, he filled out a questionnaire to join the operational group for gathering information for the organization and became its member, reported the press service of the Southern District Military Court on its page on "VKontakte".

From December 28, 2020, to September 14, the defendant, while in Novorossiysk, collected information about the movement of military equipment and the movement of ships in the city's harbor and passed it to the organization's leader.

In addition, from October 1, 2021, to March 1, 2022, he transferred funds to the account of "Artpodgotovka"*.

Moreover, Popov collected information in Novorossiysk about the exercises and maneuvers of the Black Sea Fleet forces, specifically images of military ships, coastal infrastructure of the military harbor, areas of terrain in the Tsukmes Bay with conditional designations and indications of the locations of military ships, as well as from September 14, 2021, to April 18, he gathered information about the movement of military equipment in the city.

He also had information about the arrival and mooring of military ships and submarines in the military harbor; about the possible arrival in the area of the "Grushovaya" oil depot of protected persons from among state security objects and other information, which he passed to the members of the organization.

The Southern District Military Court found Denis Popov guilty of treason 1 , participating in the activities of an extremist organization 2 , participating in the activities of a terrorist organization 3 , financing extremist activities 4 and assisting terrorist activities 5 .

The court sentenced him to 25 years in prison, with the first five years to be served in a penal colony of strict regime.
