An engineer from Krasnodar was convicted in a case of treason.

The court in the Krasnodar region sentenced an employee of a local enterprise to a long prison term, finding him guilty of collaborating with Ukrainian special services.

The convicted man is 62 years old; he worked as an engineer at one of the enterprises in the fuel and energy complex of Kuban. The basis for prosecution was materials from the FSB, and the article of treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of Russia) he was charged with provides for a prison term of twelve to twenty years.

According to the prosecution's version, the Krasnodar resident had a "negative" attitude towards the political leadership of Russia and was an "opponent of the special military operation." For this reason, he "voluntarily entered into cooperation with a representative of the Ukrainian special services" and provided him with the coordinates of oil industry facilities in the Krasnodar region. The transmitted information included official data as well as information about the number of employees at the enterprises, their equipment, and production capacities, the prosecution claims.

"In addition, at the request of his curator, the convicted man conducted visual reconnaissance of oil storage facilities, as well as technical reconnaissance of cellular and satellite communication operations in their area, the information about which he transmitted to the curator," the message published on the agency's Telegram channel states.

The case against the man was considered by the Krasnodar Regional Court. The cooperation of the Krasnodar engineer with a representative of the Security Service of Ukraine lasted from March 2024 to July 2025; during this period, he also recorded the consequences of attacks on oil industry facilities and measured GPS signals in the area of a military airfield, reported the Unified Press Service of the courts of the region.

"The transmitted information could have been used in organizing and committing sabotage-terrorist acts," the publication notes.

The court sentenced the man to 16 years in a strict regime with one year of freedom restriction and a fine of 200,000 rubles. The mobile phones and laptop of the accused, as well as the 23,000 rubles belonging to him, were confiscated for state revenue.

Whether the man pleaded guilty is not specified in the reports from the prosecution and the court. The names of those accused under the treason article in the Krasnodar Regional Court registry are concealed.

The engineer, born in 1963, was detained in July 2025, and the FSB only reported on the criminal case against him at the end of April, notes Mediazona*, referring to the materials of the criminal case.

"In the video published by the FSB, the detainee said that he found an offer to cooperate with Ukraine on YouTube, and his interlocutor was named Viktor," the publication indicates.

In a message from the FSB dated April 30, it was claimed that the man transmitted data about facilities not only in Kuban but also in the Stavropol region to Ukrainian special services.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the Stavropol Regional Court in early July found a 34-year-old Russian citizen guilty of treason and sentenced him to 18 years in prison. According to the prosecution, the defendant was recruited in Kyiv, and the motive for his cooperation with Ukrainian intelligence was "discontent with the current authorities."
