Kaspiysk residents criticized Gontsov's management style.

Former mayor of Kaspiysk Boris Gontsov, suspected of receiving large bribes, ignored all complaints and appeals from residents, and treated his immediate subordinates rudely and arrogantly.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on July 20, law enforcement detained former head of Kaspiysk Boris Gontsov in Dagestan in connection with a bribery case. Investigators reported that the official is suspected of receiving a bribe in the form of five apartments worth over 18 million rubles.

Residents of Kaspiysk interviewed by a correspondent from "Caucasian Knot" reacted without surprise to the news of the former mayor's detention in a corruption case. "We complained to him so much about the lack of garbage collection in the city, problems with water supply, and packs of stray dogs attacking people, but there was no reaction," said Maria.

"If in the early years of his tenure our complaints were accepted and promised to be considered, recently they were simply ignored. I can't speak for all Kaspiysk residents, but the overwhelming majority are glad he is gone and that a criminal case has been opened against him," said Salim.

"Chaotic construction in the city and its public spaces, housing and utilities problems - people wrote to Gontsov about this, but nothing was done for the residents of Kaspiysk. As it turns out now, he himself is involved in apartment schemes," summarized Zakir.

A former employee of the press service of the Kaspiysk administration, speaking on condition of anonymity, told a correspondent from "Caucasian Knot" that since 2020, when Gontsov became the head of the city, about ten leaders of his press service have changed. "No one could withstand his working style, arrogance, and rudeness towards subordinates. People constantly resigned," he said.

In light of the information about Gontsov's bribery, residents of Dagestan recalled his pompous statements about patriotism and serving the people. "There were so many talks about state officials, about their honesty, patriotism. The classic was right - if they push patriotism, it seems they have embezzled," quotes a remark from one of the readers of "Chernovik".

"As soon as Gontsov started talking at the beginning of his mayoralty about 'state people', it became more or less clear what he was about," added lawyer and participant in the movement "GorodNash" Arsen Magomedov.

Great attention to the case is due to Gontsov's closeness to Sergey Melikov: the former head of Dagestan is "being promoted for the role of senator in the Federation Council from Bryansk region", and "the situation with Gontsov" may affect his prospects, as noted in a publication, comments the Telegram channel "VChK-OGPU" regarding the detention of the official.
