Residents of the Dagestani village asked for help in strengthening the riverbanks.

The Sulak River is "eating" away the banks near the village of Sultanian-Gyurt and has approached the village by 100 meters, but the authorities, citing a lack of funds, are doing nothing to strengthen the banks and are preventing residents from doing this work, villagers complained to the Dagestani leadership. The administration of the Kizilyurt district reported on the work to strengthen the banks.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the danger of flooding residential houses due to the silting of the middle of the Sulak River and the erosion of the banks was reported in 2002. The villages of Nechaevka, Kirovaul, Sultanian-Gyurt, in the Kizilyurt district are in the flood zone. The bank protection structures built back in 1996 are constantly being eroded, which increases the risk of flooding houses, agricultural lands, and infrastructure facilities.

Villagers reported the inaction of the authorities

Residents of the village of Sultanian-Gyurt in the Kizilyurt district recorded a video appeal to the acting head of Dagestan Fyodor Shchukin and the Prime Minister of the Republic Magomed Ramazanov, asking for help in strengthening the banks of the Sulak River.

"We do not want it to be like in Mamedkala. The water has approached our houses, our villages. It washes away the embankments, washes away buildings," one of the participants in the appeal said.

According to the villagers, the river is literally "eating away the land"; it used to be 100 meters further from the village and has now come close to the lands allocated for participants of the SVO and large families.

The villagers reported that they had appealed to district and republican authorities, particularly to the Ministry of Natural Resources, but they were not helped, citing a lack of funds.

They emphasized that they are ready to strengthen the banks themselves, but they are told that such activity is prosecuted criminally.

The authorities reported on bank protection works

The administration of the Kizilyurt district reported on July 19 that since June 24, 2026, a state of heightened readiness has been in effect in the Kizilyurt district due to the rise in the water level of the Sulak River.

In addition, on April 13, a 19-year-old volunteer Artem Mikhrabov died in the hospital after suffering a severe head injury while helping residents of the flooded village of Mamedkala.
