20 Azerbaijani families returned to the Jabrayil region.

Eighty-nine members of Azerbaijani families who fled the Jabrayil region during the Karabakh conflict returned to the village of Shukurbeyli today.

According to the "Caucasian Knot," on June 17, 45 families (196 people) of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) returned to the village of Shukurbeyli (Shukurbeyli).

Today, members of 20 families (89 people) of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) returned to the village of Shukurbeyli in the Jabrayil region, the APA news agency reported.

Previously, these families were temporarily resettled in various regions of Azerbaijan – primarily in administrative buildings, dormitories, and sanatoriums, the Azertac news agency reported today.

As a reminder, on September 19-20, 2023, Azerbaijan conducted large-scale military operations and took control of the territory of Karabakh, which began a mass exodus of the Armenian population. By October 7, 2023, 100,632 internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Karabakh had arrived in Armenia, and by September 2024, only 14 Armenians remained in the region. The "Caucasian Knot" prepared a report, "The Beginning and End of the Unrecognized Republic of Artsakh."

The "Caucasian Knot" also reported that IDPs living in a lyceum dormitory in Baku had previously complained about living conditions. More than 30 families from the Zangilan and Jabrayil regions were housed in the building. Earlier, Azerbaijani residents who returned to Karabakh told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they were settling in and finding work. Despite ongoing problems with employment and infrastructure, the displaced persons report improved living conditions.

In November 2023, Azerbaijani authorities announced plans to return 34,500 families (140,000 people) to the former Karabakh conflict zone by the end of 2026. The pace of resettlement is hampered by mine danger, job shortages, and unresolved land use issues.
