The defense called the court's arrest decision illegal.

As "Caucasian Knot" reported, the Central Election Commission of Armenia earlier granted the petition of the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia to open a criminal case and imprison David Ghazinyan, a candidate for parliament from Russian businessman Samvel Karapetyan's "Strong Armenia" opposition bloc.

Davit Ghazinyan, a representative of the Strong Armenia bloc, has been arrested. Lawyer Aram Vardevanyan told News.am.

Ghazinyan was previously detained after the Central Election Commission stripped him of his immunity. "The court hearing lasted all night and concluded at 7:10 a.m. (local time). A little later, the decision to arrest him was announced, although not a single argument was presented during the entire hearing," the lawyer said.

The lawyer called the court's decision illegal. According to him, the charges are purely political in nature.

The lawyer previously stated that the criminal case against Ghazinyan concerns "preparations to give a bribe." Ghazinyan's name appears in one of the posts published by the Anti-Corruption Committee two weeks ago, ArmInfo reports.

As a reminder, the "Strong Armenia" bloc is preparing a lawsuit to the Constitutional Court to invalidate the election results. "We will use all legitimate, legal instruments to prove the systemic nature of falsifications, administrative pressure, and political persecution by the regime," said Aram Vardevanyan, a representative of the Strong Armenia bloc.

Oligarch Gagik Tsarukyan's Prosperous Armenia Party, former President Robert Kocharyan's Armenia bloc, and businessman Samvel Karapetyan's Strong Armenia bloc were the most pro-Russian participants in the Armenian parliamentary elections, analysts previously noted.

The parliamentary elections effectively became a referendum on the future of the current government and Armenia's foreign policy. The "Caucasian Knot" published a report "2026 Elections to the National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia".
