The prosecutor's office has demanded the imprisonment of another parliamentary candidate from the "Strong Armenia" party.

The Prosecutor's Office has appealed to the Central Election Commission to open a criminal case and imprison David Ghazinyan, a candidate for parliament from the Strong Armenia bloc, who, according to the Anti-Corruption Committee, distributed bribes to voters in Yerevan's Abakir district.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," amid preparations for the elections, the authorities have increased pressure on opposition supporters, including the Strong Armenia bloc. Thus, on June 4, the Investigative Committee reported on the criminal prosecution of 37 people involved in the case of the previously arrested Alik Aleksanyan. Aleksanyan is suspected of money laundering and bribery of Armenian residents in the political interests of businessman Samvel Karapetyan. On June 6, the Central Election Commission (CEC) authorized the criminal prosecution of six Strong Armenia candidates suspected of money laundering and vote-buying. That same day, it was reported that more than 100 voters in the Artashat community had received bribes from a Strong Armenia candidate, and 40 people were detained. A total of 194 people have been detained in connection with election-related cases, the Anti-Corruption Committee reported.

Pre-election ratings of Armenian parties

Eighteen parties have registered for the elections, but the real competition is only between four. According to ratings, the ruling Civil Contract party maintains its lead, but the overall rating of the opposition forces is higher.

The Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia has appealed to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic to submit a petition to the Central Electoral Commission to strip registered candidate D.K. of his immunity, News.Am reports.

"The persons appointed as responsible for the Strong Armenia party office in the Arabkir district of Yerevan, as well as D.K., a registered candidate for parliament from the same party, in prior collusion with party supporters and a group of individuals collaborating with them, promised voters and also gave them electoral bribes," the report states.

The person in question is David Kazinyan, the agency clarified.

Petitions have been submitted to the Central Electoral Commission seeking approval to initiate criminal proceedings against candidate D.K. and his imprisonment.
