A Maykop resident has been arrested in absentia in a terrorist case.

A court in Adygea has arrested in absentia a resident of the republic suspected of involvement in two terrorist organizations banned in Russia.

The suspect, a 56-year-old resident of Maykop, is accused of participating in the activities of terrorist organizations (Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Russian Criminal Code carries a sentence of 10 to 20 years in prison). The man's criminal prosecution was based on information from the republic's FSB department, which deemed him a "supporter of terrorist ideology."

According to investigators, in 2021, the Adygea resident, while abroad, joined two organizations banned in Russia as terrorist. The man "actively participated in their activities," held conferences, and encouraged people from the North Caucasus republics living abroad to commit "illegal acts," the republic's Investigative Committee reported on its Telegram channel on June 3.

A court, at the request of the investigation, has arrested the suspect in absentia; investigators are preparing to place him on the international wanted list. The agency's statement does not specify which banned organizations are being referred to, in which country the suspect joined them, or where he held events for residents of the North Caucasus. Investigators also did not disclose his name or occupation.

Caucasian Knot has not yet received any comments from the suspect or his lawyer.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that a military court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Ibragim Nagoyev, a native of Adygea, to 11 years in prison, finding him a member of a terrorist organization. Nagoyev administered a Telegram channel, whose posts the court deemed aimed at "inciting the Adyghe population of Russian regions to hold unauthorized public events, as well as promoting separatist ideas."
