A candidate from Prosperous Armenia is suspected of bribing voters.

A candidate from the Prosperous Armenia Party is suspected of bribing voters to vote for the opposition, the Anti-Corruption Committee stated.

As reported by the Caucasian Knot, in April and May the Anti-Corruption Committee announced that criminal cases had been opened against members of the Strong Armenia party suspected of bribing voters. These statements were accompanied by the publication of recordings of conversations in which the size of pre-election bribes and the conditions for supporting politicians were discussed. On June 2, the Anti-Corruption Committee stated that the head of the Strong Armenia office in the Byureghavan community of the Kotayk region is suspected of bribing a local resident to vote for them.

A candidate from the Prosperous Armenia party is suspected of bribing a group of voters to vote for the party, the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia announced on its website on the evening of June 2.

"As part of the investigation initiated by the RA Anti-Corruption Committee, criminal cases were opened, detentions, searches, and other procedural actions were carried out," the publication stated.

The candidate's name and other details were not provided in the statement. The agency only noted that officers from the Shirak Regional Department of the National Security Service participated in the investigative actions.

Preparations for the elections are accompanied by persecution of pro-Russian opposition members

As a reminder, amid preparations for the elections, the authorities have increased pressure on opposition supporters. For example, on May 26, security forces conducted a search of the Prosperous Armenia Party office in Vanadzor. As a result, 10 people were detained. They are accused of giving and receiving campaign bribes.

On May 22, NSS officers conducted searches of the Mother Armenia Party office and the apartment of its leader, Andranik Tevanyan, who is second on the Prosperous Armenia Party's list of candidates. Tevanyan has been charged with treason and espionage. The court remanded him in custody for two months, allowing him to participate in the election process through representatives.

On May 16, security forces detained 10 supporters of the Strong Armenia party, suspected of obstructing the election campaign of representatives of the ruling party. Six of them were taken into custody, and four were placed under house arrest.

The parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 7. Seventeen parties and two blocs have been admitted. The "Strong Armenia" bloc of businessman Samvel Karapetyan, the "Armenia" bloc of former president Robert Kocharyan and the "Prosperous Armenia" party of oligarch Gagik Tsarukyan are the most pro-Russian participants in the upcoming elections. According to analysts, the parties of Samvel Karapetyan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and Robert Kocharyan will be key competitors in the elections.

The opposition's fragmentation has not diminished amid the campaign and increased pressure: the main opposition parties are fighting for votes and political leadership. Representatives of the Strong Armenia party and the Armenia bloc emphasized the importance of partnership with Russia, but emphasized the need for the country to pursue an independent policy.
