Nine members of an extremist group have been convicted in Karachay-Cherkessia.

The Cherkessk City Court convicted nine residents of Karachay-Cherkessia of organizing and participating in an extremist group.

According to investigators and the court, the defendants acted on the ideology of an organization banned in Russia and were pursuing the goal of violently changing the constitutional order.

The criminal activity of members of an organization banned in Russia was stopped by regional FSB officers in 2024. The members were accused of organizing and participating in an extremist organization 1 , Interfax reported today, citing the Karachay-Cherkessia FSB.

By the court's decision, all nine defendants were found guilty and sentenced to varying terms of imprisonment - from 6 years in a general regime penal colony to 3 years of suspended imprisonment.

The sentence entered into force after review by the appellate court, the report clarified.

"Caucasian Knot" also wrote that the Supreme Court of Karachay-Cherkessia reduced the sentence in the case of the extremist community, handed down in July 2025 by the Cherkessk City Court, but the guilty verdict was not fully overturned.

In October 2025, a court in Karachay-Cherkessia sentenced six residents of the republic who were accused of involvement in At Takfir wal-Hijra*. A day after the verdict, the court's press service announced that they had been convicted as members of AUE*.

* The organization has been recognized as extremist, and its activities have been banned in Russia by the court.
