The weather forecast in Dagestan did not confirm fears of a third wave of floods.

The period during which a third wave of floods was predicted in Dagestan did not bring worsening weather conditions on the scale observed previously, stated the head of the republic, Sergei Melikov.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot," Dagestani analysts interviewed by "Caucasian Knot" cited ill-considered development, natural factors, and the deplorable state of hydraulic structures as among the causes of the devastating flooding. They unanimously considered the contribution of volunteers in the fight against the consequences of the flood to be significant. The Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences previously attributed the regular flooding in Dagestan to a combination of natural processes and anthropogenic impacts, which increases the scale of natural disasters and increases the risks for people.

In Dagestan, "localized pockets of changing meteorological conditions" remain, but overall, during the predicted third wave of floods, adverse weather events have not been as widespread, said Dagestan's head, Sergei Melikov.

He noted that avalanches, flooding in some populated areas, and landslides continue in mountainous areas due to precipitation. "Today, we're still talking about the fact that emergency situations themselves, to a greater or lesser extent, are taking place," RIA Novosti quotes Melikov as saying.

To date, more than 11,200 people, including 2,500 children, have been evacuated in Dagestan due to flooding, regional Deputy Prime Minister Ramazan Dzhafarov announced at a meeting of the emergency response headquarters. According to him, there are 532 people in 16 temporary accommodation centers, including 177 children, while the remaining evacuees have been placed with relatives.

More than 120 residents of Dagestan affected by the floods have already received payments for the total or partial loss of property, the region's Minister of Labor and Social Development, Magomedzagid Kikhasurov, announced today.

"We currently have 19 million 510 thousand rubles in payments, including 562 payments of 15,675 rubles each, as well as 126 payments for partial or total loss of property, including 116 for partial loss of property and 10 for total loss of property," the minister reported at a meeting of the task force.

When the "Third Wave" Was Expected

Against the backdrop of the forecast of a third wave of floods in the affected areas, new preparations were launched: partial evacuation of residents from dangerous zones was resumed, riverbeds were cleared and widened, equipment was used in Mamedkala, in the Khasavyurt direction, and in Karaman, and in other settlements where there had been flooding, attempts were also made to increase water flow.

On April 10, the Dagestan Ministry of Emergency Situations issued an emergency warning for the next five days, from April 11 to 15. "A combination of meteorological phenomena is expected in some districts of the Republic of Dagestan: heavy rain, in mountainous areas, heavy precipitation in the form of rain turning to snow, downpours combined with thunderstorms and winds strengthening to 22-27 meters per second. In some mountainous and high-altitude areas, very heavy snowfall and fog are expected. River water levels will rise to unfavorable levels, and small mudflows will occur in the mountains," the department's website stated.

At the same time, data from the Caucasian Knot weather service has not predicted heavy precipitation since April 9. Thus, moderate precipitation was forecast for April 11 in Babayurt, while in Makhachkala, the next light to moderate rain is not expected until April 14.

In Urkarakh there was light rain today, light to moderate precipitation (with possible snow) is expected until April 16. In Gunib there was moderate rain today, moderate precipitation in the form of rain and snow is expected at night and during the day of April 14. In Dakhadaevka and Dylym light to moderate rain is also forecast for the next 24 hours.

In Buinaksk, light to moderate rain is expected on Tuesday, April 14, and Saturday; cloudy weather is expected on the remaining days, with no precipitation.
