A woman and a child were trapped under snow after an avalanche in Dagestan.

An avalanche covered two houses in the mountain village of Shaitli. According to rescuers, a woman and child were trapped under the snow.

An avalanche occurred in the village of Shaitli in the Tsuntinsky District, the Ministry of Emergency Situations for Dagestan reported today on its website. "According to preliminary information, two houses were covered by an avalanche, and evacuations are underway," the publication stated.

According to the department, a woman and a child were trapped under the snow, Interfax reports, citing the department's press service.

Yesterday, April 12, an avalanche measuring seven meters wide and one and a half meters high also descended on a section of the Udok-Terutli local road in the Tsuntinsky District. Its volume is estimated at 1,050 cubic meters.

"The avalanche reached the roadbed, disrupting transport links with three settlements: Tsokokh, Terutli, Makhalatli, and the border outpost," the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for Dagestan reported on its website that day.

As a reminder, in early February, roads in the Tsuntinsky District were blocked by snow due to avalanches, and local residents had to carry the body of the deceased several kilometers for burial in his home village.

On March 25, 2025, an avalanche also occurred on the Agvali-Shauri-Kidero highway in the Tsuntinsky District. A temporary passage was established, but the next day, another avalanche occurred on the same section. Local residents were forced to help repair power lines after the wet snow brought down wires.

In February 2023, residents of the village of Khutrakh were forced to carry a woman in need of urgent medical attention for two kilometers through snowdrifts. Due to the snowfall, the roads were covered with a thick layer of snow, and the ambulance could not get there.
