A resident of Adygea extinguished the Eternal Flame and was put under investigation.

A resident of the village of Giaginskaya in Adygea has been charged with desecrating military graves after extinguishing the eternal flame at the "Mass Grave" memorial.

The charge of desecrating military graves (Part 2 of Article 243.4 of the Russian Criminal Code) carries a sentence of up to five years in prison or forced labor.

A criminal case has been opened against a resident of the village of Giaginskaya for desecrating a mass grave of soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War, the Investigative Committee for Adygea reported on April 7.

The incident, according to the agency's report, occurred back in March. A man who was at the "Mass Grave" memorial "threw his outerwear into the Eternal Flame memorial structure, thereby extinguishing its flame," and then fled, according to a post on the official Telegram channel.

CCTV footage, a fragment of which was published by the Investigative Committee, shows the man removing his jacket and deliberately covering the flame with it, spreading the fabric over the flame to cut off the oxygen supply. After extinguishing the flame, he put the jacket back on.

The department noted that "the necessary investigative and procedural actions are being carried out" in the case, but did not specify when the suspect was detained or what preventive measure was chosen for him.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in November 2025, the Supreme Court of Dagestan increased the sentences of two Makhachkala women accused of insulting the memory of defenders of the Fatherland after making coffee over the Eternal Flame. Initially, both women received suspended sentences, but the court subsequently ordered them to pay a fine of 2 million rubles each.

In the summer of 2025, the court sentenced four Dagestani residents to prison terms in a penal colony after they had previously publicly apologized for desecrating the Eternal Flame in Nevinnomyssk.
