A soldier from Kabardino-Balkaria was killed in Ukraine.

Zaur Tlepshev from the Baksan district was killed in military operations in Ukraine. Since February 2022, at least 379 combatants from Kabardino-Balkaria have been recognized as killed there.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," by February 21, at least 378 fighters from Kabardino-Balkaria had been officially recognized as killed in the military operation.

The district administration reported on the unveiling of a memorial plaque to Zaur Tlepshev at a school in the village of Kishpek, where he was killed during a special military operation, on February 20 in a Telegram channel.

Zaur Tlepshev was awarded the Zhukov Medal during his lifetime. On December 1, 2024, Lieutenant Tlepshev was killed. During the ceremony, he was awarded the Order of Courage (posthumously). District Head Adib Abregov presented an order to the parents of the slain lieutenant.

Thus, at least 379 fighters from Kabardino-Balkaria have been officially recognized as killed in the military operation. Caucasian Knot knows the names of 366 of them, and the deaths of another 13 were revealed in the republic's government report on payments to the families of those killed in 2022.

More than 8,600 fighters from southern Russia have been officially recognized as killed in the North Caucasus Military District zone.

"Caucasian Knot" maintains a list of names of natives of the North Caucasus Federal District and Southern Federal District, killed in military operations. The list was compiled based on data officially released by government officials and law enforcement agencies, according to the Caucasian Knot report "Military Defense Statistics: Losses Are Mounting for Southern Russia."

State awards, memorial plaques, and appearances on Channel One do not guarantee state support for the families of those killed, according to the Caucasian Knot report "Three Comrades Served: How Authorities Are Depriving Families of Killed Volunteers of Benefits," which describes the stories of the slain soldiers. For example, the mother of the slain Dmitry Ukhanov said she searched for her son's body for four months, while administration and military registration and enlistment office staff inquired from her about the progress of the search without offering any assistance.
