The court approved the decision to hear the Kopaigorodsky case in Moscow.

The Supreme Court upheld the decision to transfer the case of former Sochi Mayor Alexey Kopaigorodsky and his wife, who are accused of corruption, to a Moscow court.

As reported by Caucasian Knot, on November 21, 2025, the Prosecutor General's Office approved the indictment and sent the case of Alexey Kopaigorodsky and his wife, Yanina Kopaigorodskaya, to the Supreme Court for a determination of territorial jurisdiction. The Supreme Court determined the territorial jurisdiction of the case, and it was transferred to the Meshchansky Court of Moscow for consideration.

The Supreme Court of Russia upheld the decision to hear Alexei Kopaigorodsky's criminal case in Moscow, lawyer Ivan Mironov told RAPSI.

"The Supreme Court upheld the decision to hear the case in the capital and upheld it," the agency quoted him as saying.

As a reminder, Alexei Kopaigorodsky, a native of Krasnodar, has been the head of Sochi since 2019. On May 14, 2024, he submitted his resignation due to a transfer to a new position. The following day, the City Council accepted the mayor's resignation.

In 2025, the Prosecutor General's Office demanded that 14 apartments, land plots, cars, and other property belonging to Alexey and Yanina Kopaigorodsky and individuals and organizations associated with them be seized for state use—a total of 1.6 billion rubles. In January, the court upheld the agency's claim.
