A teacher from Makhachkala is suspected of torturing a student.

A Makhachkala resident has become a suspect in a criminal case involving the torture of a child. According to sources, the suspect is a teacher who beat the student with a belt.

Investigators in Makhachkala have opened a criminal case against a local resident under paragraph "g" of Part 2 of Article 117 of the Russian Criminal Code (torture of a minor or a person known to the perpetrator to be in a helpless state), the Investigative Committee for Dagestan reported today.

According to investigators, the incident occurred on January 23. "The suspect, while at his place of residence, intentionally inflicted physical and mental suffering on the minor by repeatedly striking him on the back and head with an unidentified object, knowing that due to his age, the victim was helpless and unable to resist," the investigation's version is quoted in the publication. The agency did not provide any further details.

According to the anonymous Telegram channel Mash Gor, the case concerns a man teaching the Quran who beat at least one of the college students with a belt because they "called him names" "The boys are 13 years old.
