Suspects in terrorist plot arrested in Azerbaijan

Three Azerbaijani citizens have been taken into custody for allegedly planning a terrorist attack on a foreign embassy in Baku.

Azerbaijani citizens Ilgar Guliyev, born in 2000, Amin Piriyev, born in 2005, and Elvin Alizade, born in 2005, are suspected of planning to commit a terrorist attack on a foreign embassy in Baku "on the grounds of religious hatred," the State Security Service of Azerbaijan reported today on its website.

"These individuals, who entered into criminal relations with members of the Vilayat-i-Khorasan armed group of the ISIS terrorist organization (a terrorist organization banned in Russia - Ed. "Caucasian Knot"), as a group of individuals, having conspired in advance, acquired items used as weapons to commit a terrorist attack against a foreign embassy in "The Azerbaijani Republic was detained by State Security Service (SSS) officers as they approached the embassy," the agency's Russian-language website reported.

The case was opened under the criminal article "Preparation for terrorism based on religious hatred by a group of persons previously involved in a conspiracy, using objects used as weapons." "By court decision, they were remanded in custody," the publication noted.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in May 2025, 18-year-old Sumgait resident Abdullah Aliyev was detained on similar charges. According to security forces, he was also associated with a terrorist organization and was preparing to commit a terrorist attack against the Baku Synagogue of Mountain Jews using a Molotov cocktail.
