A court has arrested an Ingush security officer in connection with a drug-planting case.

The Supreme Court of Ingushetia has changed the pretrial detention measure for Ibragim Chaniev, former deputy head of the 2nd Department of the Ingush Ministry of Internal Affairs, from house arrest to pretrial detention in a case of abuse of power and drug possession.

According to investigators, Chaniev, while deputy head of the 2nd Department of the Criminal Investigation Department, and a senior police detective, acquired and stored 9.03 grams of mephedrone in June 2023 to falsify evidence in a drug trafficking case.

On June 22, 2023, while in a police building, security officers planted drugs on a local resident. Based on a falsified police report on the seizure of mephedrone, a man was wrongfully accused of illegally acquiring and possessing a narcotic drug, Interfax reported today. The Supreme Court of Ingushetia overturned the Malgobek Court's decision to place Chaniev under house arrest for two months, ordering his detention until March 21. Caucasian Knot also reported that in early June 2025, a former detective with the Ingushetia Drug Control Department was arrested for two months for fabricating a criminal case. According to investigators, the security officer, acting in concert with an acquaintance, planted a package of drugs on a man and opened a case against him. In mid-June, the Supreme Court of Ingushetia upheld the Magas court's decision to arrest the police officer. In early December 2025, an Ingush court also arrested a former detective from the republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs' Drug Control Department, suspected of illegal drug trafficking.
