A Dagestani soldier was killed in the SVO zone.

Arslan Batayev from the Khasavyurt district was killed in combat. Since the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine, at least 1,778 fighters from Dagestan have been officially recognized as killed.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," by January 20, officials had officially recognized at least 1,777 fighters from Dagestan as killed in Ukraine.

The Khasavyurt administration announced today on its Telegram channel that a Suvorov medal had been handed over to the father of Arslan Batayev, a deceased participant in the special military operation. The ceremony took place at the Khasavyurt administration. The soldier's biography was not provided in the statement.

Earlier, city authorities also reported that Yarash Abdulvagabov and Magomed Magomedov were killed in the SVO zone.

Thus, at least 1,778 servicemen from Dagestan have been officially recognized as killed on the Ukrainian front.

Northern Military District statistics: losses are mounting for southern Russia

"Caucasian Knot" maintains a list of names of natives of the North Caucasus and Southern Federal Districts killed in the military operation. The list was compiled within the framework of current laws and based on data provided by officials—from governors to village heads—as well as representatives of law enforcement agencies.

State awards, memorial plaques, and appearances on Channel One do not guarantee state support for the families of those killed, according to the Caucasian Knot article "Three Comrades Served: How Authorities Are Depriving Families of Killed Volunteers of Benefits," which describes the stories of fighters from other regions.

According to the Caucasian Knot, by January 19, government and law enforcement officials had officially recognized over 8,500 fighters from southern Russia as killed in the military operation in Ukraine: at least 4,194 fighters from the North Caucasus Federal District and 4,310 from the Southern Federal District have been officially recognized as killed in the military operation in Ukraine. Dagestan ranks first among the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District in the number of those killed, whose names have been officially released by the authorities. Back in February 2022, Dagestan's head, Sergei Melikov, was the first official to announce that a Russian soldier had been killed in Ukraine, acknowledging the death of officer Nurmagomed Gadzimagomedov. The "Caucasian Knot" reported that servicemen from Dagestan periodically record video messages to the republic's authorities asking them to resolve various social and domestic issues. In particular, at the end of September 2025, SVO members complained to Melikov about the lack of sewage in Khasavyurt, and in December, about the lack of gas in a house in Izberbash. In January, former SVO members stated in an appeal to the head of Dagestan that residents of the village of Ashaga-Yarak in the Khiva district had nowhere to graze their cattle as a result of the sale of transhumance lands. Also in January, SVO members complained to Melikov about the freezing of construction on their houses.

Such appeals are caused by a multitude of problems in the republic and remain one of the ways to gain the attention of officials. Despite Melikov's statement that combatants are recording messages as a result of "manipulation," he will have to respond to them, analysts previously interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" indicated.
