Volgograd-based Americanist Ivan Kurilla* has been added to the register of foreign agents.

The Russian Ministry of Justice has added Americanist historian Ivan Kurilla* to the register of foreign agents.

As reported by the Caucasian Knot, on December 12, 2025, the Russian Ministry of Justice added Yeysk activist and former district assembly deputy Alexander Korovayny* to the register of foreign agents.

On January 16, the Russian Ministry of Justice updated its list of foreign agents, adding five individuals and two organizations. Among those designated by the ministry as a foreign agent is Ivan Kurilla*, an Americanist historian from Volgograd. The foreign agent registry states that he "participated in the creation and dissemination to the general public of messages and materials from foreign agents and undesirable organizations, disseminated false information about the decisions and policies of the Russian authorities, and spoke out against the Central Military District in Ukraine."

Ivan Kurilla* was born in Volgograd and headed the Department of International Relations and Foreign Regional Studies at Volgograd State University for 10 years, as well as the university's Center for American Studies, "Americana." Since 2008, he has been the editor-in-chief of the journal "Vestnik Volgogradskogo State University" and the Americana yearbook. In the early 2000s, he was a visiting scholar at Dartmouth College, then at George Washington University, according to Vysota102.

The Ministry of Justice also added political scientist Arkady Dubnov* to the foreign agent registry.
