Samvel Karapetyan has been placed under arrest again.

The Anti-Corruption Court of Appeal of Armenia overturned the decision to place Tashir Group owner Savmevl Karapetyan under house arrest. He has been held for two months.

As reported by the Caucasian Knot, in November 2025, an Armenian court extended Samvel Karapetyan's pre-trial detention. However, on December 30, the court transferred the businessman to house arrest. That same day, Karapetyan was released from the Yerevan-Kentron Penitentiary. On January 12, the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia demanded that the pre-trial detention measure for Samvel Karapetyan, who had been transferred to house arrest, be tightened. The defense insists on the businessman's release.

The Anti-Corruption Court of Appeal overturned the decision of the lower court judge, Sargis Petrosyan, to place Samvel Karapetyan under house arrest. Samvel Karapetyan has been sentenced to two months' detention, a representative of the Anti-Corruption Court reported today to NEWS.am.

Karapetyan was taken from his home to a correctional facility, Aysor.Am reported.

As a reminder, before his arrest, Samvel Karapetyan expressed support for the Armenian Apostolic Church after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan harshly criticized the Church at a government meeting on May 29 and responded to Archbishop Arshak Khachatryan's objections with insults on Facebook*. Armenian politicians and church representatives demanded that Pashinyan apologize for insulting the church, according to a report prepared by the Caucasian Knot, "The Main Thing About Political Arrests in Armenia in June 2025."

In July 2025, 65 members of the Armenian parliament supported a bill allowing the nationalization of Karapetyan's company, Electric Networks of Armenia. On July 8, security forces searched the company's offices and the home of Narek Karapetyan, chairman of the board of directors.

On July 2, 2025, searches were conducted at the Yerevan office of Tashir Group. The searches were prompted by a criminal case on tax evasion and money laundering. On July 11, 2025, Vaghinak Ghazaryan, director of Karapetyan's Tashir Pizza company, was arrested for tax evasion. was arrested on charges of tax evasion.
