A detainee died at a police station in the Rostov region.

A man arrested for robbery resisted arrest, and police officers used force and handcuffs. He died at the police station. An acquaintance reported multiple injuries on the deceased's body. Investigators have reported their investigation.

A man who was detained died at a police station in the village of Novaya Sokolovka in Novoshakhtinsk. According to his acquaintances, he was detained on the street and taken to the police station. His death was reported some time later. A friend of the deceased arrived at the morgue to identify the body and claimed to have noticed multiple injuries, Bloknot Rostov reported.

The deceased had a prior criminal record. He was released approximately a year and a half ago, the publication states.

The Investigative Committee for the Rostov Region reported that investigators are conducting an investigation into the death of a detainee at a police station.
 
"According to preliminary data, the man was brought to the station on suspicion of committing a crime. While in the police building, he felt a sharp deterioration in his health, after which police officers called an ambulance for him. The arriving paramedics took all necessary measures to stabilize the detainee's condition, but were unable to save his life," the department reported on its Telegram channel.

Investigators examined the scene of the incident, interviewed witnesses present at the station, and medical workers. A series of forensic examinations have been ordered to establish the cause of death, the report states.

The circumstances of the incident will be established during the investigation, based on the results of which a procedural decision will be made.

According to police, the man broke into a woman's home and robbed her – "he used violence against the owner," stole her phone and money. He was then detained, but resisted. "Physical force and handcuffs were used against him," 161.ru reports, citing the Rostov Region police press service.

"Caucasian Knot" reported that on June 14, 2023, Anatoly Berezikov died in the Rostov special detention center, where he was serving his third consecutive administrative arrest following a pacifist protest. The activist's arrest was set to expire on June 15. Lawyer Irina Gak was told of his death when she came to see him. However, when Gak met with her client a few days earlier, she said he appeared healthy. The lawyer had previously noted traces of a stun gun on Berezikov. "He complained to me that he had been threatened, that he feared he would be killed... He complained that security forces had taken him out of town and tortured him with stun guns," Irina Gak said.
