A Dagestani resident has been convicted of large-scale oil theft.

A Kizlyar resident was sentenced to six years in prison for stealing oil through pipeline taps and paying bribes to ensure unimpeded access to infrastructure.

The Nogai District Court of Dagestan sentenced a Kizlyar resident, finding him guilty of stealing oil and paying bribes.

According to the case materials, from August to October 2023, the convicted individual, along with another citizen, formed an organized group of 12 individuals who stole approximately 86 tons of oil by tapping into an oil pipeline belonging to JSC "Dagneft," for a total of over 5.2 million rubles. From August 2023 to May 2024, they stole 119 tons of oil from DagBurServis LLC, worth approximately five million rubles. Their actions also damaged the oil pipeline, as the oil theft was also carried out through a tap, RBC reported on January 4.

Furthermore, the defendant bribed officials to ensure unimpeded passage through the checkpoint.

The convicted person was charged under paragraphs "a" and "b" of Part 4 of Article 158 of the Russian Criminal Code (large-scale theft committed by an organized group), paragraph "a" of Part 4 of Article 215.3 of the Russian Criminal Code (illegal tapping into a main pipeline committed by an organized group), and Part 3 of Article 291 of the Russian Criminal Code (giving a significant bribe to an official). The defendant pleaded guilty and cooperated with the investigation. The court sentenced him to six years in a penal colony.

Furthermore, the court upheld the civil claim of the two aforementioned legal entities for compensation for property damage.
