A suspect in an attempted arson attack on a school Christmas tree has been detained in Adygea.

A citizen of a Central Asian republic has been detained in Adygea on suspicion of attempting to set fire to a Christmas tree at a school.

According to the FSB, security forces have prevented a terrorist attack against students at a school in Adygea. A citizen of a Central Asian country was detained on suspicion of plotting an attack. Ten Molotov cocktails and two tactical knives were seized from his car.

The detainee is a supporter of a terrorist organization banned in Russia; a group flag was found in his car. Security forces clarified that the detainee's activities were coordinated from abroad via a popular messaging app. This was confirmed by an examination of the man's phone, RIA Novosti reported, citing the FSB Public Relations Center.

In his testimony, the suspect stated that he was asked to set fire to the school's Christmas tree. A case has been opened under Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code (terrorist act) 1 .

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in mid-December, a criminal case for participation in a terrorist organization and preparation for a terrorist act was opened against a 19-year-old resident of the village of Novaya Adygeya.
