A Stavropol resident has been accused of justifying terrorism.

A Stavropol resident is suspected of calling for terrorist activity due to an audio recording published on social media.

The suspect is 21 years old. A criminal case has been opened against him under the article on public justification of terrorism via the internet (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Russian Criminal Code carries a prison sentence of five to seven years).

According to investigators, in 2023, the young man published an audio recording on a publicly accessible social media page. Law enforcement officials discovered in it a public call to commit terrorist activity and a public justification of terrorism, according to a statement from the regional Investigative Committee.

The agency published a short operational recording made by officers of the FSB Directorate for Stavropol Krai. Security forces detained the suspect in a private home where they conducted a search. He was then taken to the Investigative Department for the Industrial District of Stavropol. A mobile phone is used as evidence in the case, according to the recording. The suspect's face is not visible in the footage.

The investigators' report did not specify the measure of restraint chosen for the Stavropol resident.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that a military court in St. Petersburg sentenced Eldar Kabardaev, a native of Karachay-Cherkessia, to six years in prison for incitement to extremism and terrorist propaganda. Kabardaev claimed in court that he wrote the comments at the behest of security forces.
