The son of the mayor of Gyumri has been arrested for two months.

The court has remanded the son of Gyumri Mayor Spartak Ghukasyan, accused of hooliganism, in custody for two months.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on September 11, security forces reported that Spartak Ghukasyan, the son of Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, was detained on suspicion of extortion. Vardan Ghukasyan criticized the extortion theory and stated that the case was politically motivated and intended to "settle scores" with him. On September 12, the Shirak Regional Court placed Spartak Ghukasyan under house arrest for two months. On November 20, Ghukasyan was arrested on charges of hooliganism.

The court granted the investigators' motion to arrest Gyumri Mayor Spartak Ghukasyan's son, News.am reported on November 21.

Accused of hooliganism committed by a group of persons using information or communication technologies (Clauses 1 and 3, Part 2, Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Armenia), Ghukasyan was arrested for two months.

Eight people, including Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, were arrested by security forces in Gyumri on October 20 in connection with a bribery case. The searches at the mayor's office were accompanied by a protest by city residents. Following this protest, the Investigative Committee of Armenia opened a criminal case on mass riots and obstruction of justice. The Investigative Committee of Armenia reported that 33 people have been detained in connection with the mass riots in Gyumri.
