European Court passes two decisions against Azerbaijan

The European Court for Human Rights (ECtHR) has passed two more decisions against Azerbaijan.

It has become known to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent from sources at the ECtHR that the first decision was passed on the claim of Elchin Abbasov, born in 1964, who is currently resident in the Russian Federation.

He had addressed to the ECtHR claiming a violation in his relation of Article 6 (the right to fair trial) of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The reason of the complaint was the fact that the Supreme Court, where the applicant's case was heard, had failed to inform him about the start of the trial. As a result, the ruling on E. Abbasov's case was passed in his absentia. The ECtHR has decided that the government should pay compensation to E. Abbasov worth 1000 euros for judicial expenses.

The second decision was passed in favour of Ismail Ismailov, born in 1947, who for a long time could not register the organization founded by him under the name "Mankind and Environment". The ECtHR has unanimously ruled that in relation to the applicant Article 11 (the right to the freedom of assembly) of the ECHR was violated. He should be paid 1000 euros for judicial expenses.

Let us note here that lately the ECtHR has already passed more than 10 decisions against Azerbaijan. During the period of 2002-2007, the European Court for Human Rights (ECtHR) received 1500 complaints from Azerbaijani citizens. 90 percent of them were rejected.
