A Georgievsk resident has been arrested in connection with a terrorist plot.

The FSB reported the arrest of a Georgievsk resident suspected of plotting an explosion at a transport infrastructure facility. The man has been taken into custody.

Analysts doubt the genuineness of the terrorist threat in Stavropol

Security services are motivated Journalist Elena Suslova and human rights activist Arsen Sarkisov suggested disseminating falsified reports about the detention of suspected terrorists in Stavropol to improve reporting and for propaganda purposes. Valery Ledovskoy, coordinator of the Center for Civil Initiatives of the North Caucasus Federal District, said the likely purpose of such propaganda was to warn about the consequences of participating in radical organizations.

In Stavropol Krai, "the sabotage and terrorist activity" of a Georgievsk resident, born in 1980, was "stopped," the FSB reported today on its website.

According to the agency, the man "proactively established contact with a representative of a Ukrainian terrorist organization controlled by enemy special services" using Telegram and, at the latter's direction, photographed and videotaped "a regional transportation infrastructure facility" with the intent of detonating it.

"In October 2025, on instructions from his supervisor, he purchased components for an improvised explosive device from a retail chain and placed them in a hiding place. While moving to reconnoiter the site of the planned terrorist attack, he was detained by FSB officers." - the publication states.

The Investigative Department of the Federal Security Service (FSB) has opened a case against the man under Part 1 of Article 30, Subparagraph "a" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code (preparation for a terrorist attack), which carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison. "The court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention for the suspect," the special service reported.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the FSB made a similar statement less than two weeks ago, on October 20. According to the agency, a resident of Georgievsk, born in 2000, contacted a representative of a terrorist organization via Telegram and joined it. After this, according to security officials, the young man visited the administration building, where he "conducted reconnaissance" and then purchased components for a homemade bomb.

Security officials had previously reported foiled terrorist attacks in Stavropol Krai. For example, on May 19, nine people, including eight teenagers, suspected of plotting attacks on police officers were taken into custody in Stavropol Krai. Some of the detainees told security officials that they swore an oath to a terrorist organization without understanding the meaning of what they were saying.

Before this incident, since the beginning of 2025, the FSB had reported foiling terrorist attacks in Stavropol Krai at least four times. Analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" disputed these FSB reports. The reports are due to the activity of terrorist supporters and preventive measures by security forces, stated journalist Vasily Balditsyn and scientist Alexey Gunya. Interior Ministry Colonel Amir Kolov countered that security services are also persecuting activists and critics of the security forces in the North Caucasus.
