The head of the Masis community, David Hambardzumyan, has been arrested.

Police arrested the head of the Masis community, David Hambardzumyan, previously sentenced to imprisonment for organizing mass riots, right at the Yerevan airport, where he arrived from Moscow.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on April 22, 2018, during the "Velvet Revolution" in Armenia, a group of masked men attacked supporters of Nikol Pashinyan in the Erebuni district of Yerevan. The attackers were armed with batons, stones, and stun guns. According to the victims, the police did nothing. On May 31, Masis Mayor David Hambardzumyan, his deputy Karen Ohanyan, and three others were arrested in connection with this case. On June 1, they were charged with organizing mass riots. On October 23, the Yerevan Criminal Court sentenced Hambardzumyan to six years and three months in prison.

Masis Community Head David Hambardzumyan has been arrested. He was on a working visit to Moscow and was arrested immediately upon landing at Yerevan airport, News.am reported on October 28.

According to public figure Narek Malyan, Hambardzumyan was arrested immediately upon disembarking the plane. His relatives, friends, and supporters gathered at the airport to greet him. Significant police forces were also deployed there.

Ambartsumyan himself, having shaken the police officer's hand, said that he expected an arrest.
