Putin's court established in Chechnya

The Supreme Court of Russia has approved the creation of the Putin District Court in Chechnya with five judges.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," in April 2024, residents of the Sheikh-Mansurovsky District of Grozny supported the authorities' initiative to transform the district by carving out a new city district from its territory and naming it "Putinsky." The survey did not suggest any other name options.

The Supreme Court of Russia has initiated the creation of a Putin District Court in Grozny. The Plenum of the Supreme Court of Russia, chaired by Igor Krasnov, today approved and sent the corresponding bill to the State Duma, TASS reported.

The new Grozny District Court is proposed to create five judge positions and 16 staff positions. The explanatory note to the bill states that 42,697 people lived in the Putin District of Grozny as of the beginning of the year, and that active construction of residential buildings, kindergartens, and schools is also underway there. Plans call for 130 new apartment buildings to be built in the district in the coming years.

The Putinsky District became Grozny's fifth district, joining the Akhmatovsky, Baysangurovsky, Visaitovsky, and Sheikh-Mansurovsky districts (formerly the Leninsky, Oktyabrsky, Staropromyslovsky, and Zavodskoy districts).

The establishment of the new court is required by federal law, which stipulates that each administrative-territorial unit of a constituent entity of the Russian Federation, including each city district, must have its own district court. Currently, the Sheikh-Mansurovsky District Court hears legal disputes in the Putinsky District.
