An Astrakhan resident was sentenced to 15 years in prison for terrorism.

The court sentenced Vladimir Savin to a term in a penal colony, finding him a member of a terrorist organization who was preparing explosions and an assassination attempt on a deputy of the Astrakhan Regional Duma.

As "Caucasian Knot" reported, in early October, the Southern District Military Court sentenced Kuban resident Igor Yakovenko to five years in a maximum security prison, accused of intending to join the "Legion of Freedom of Russia"* organization.

The Southern District Military Court found Astrakhan resident Vladimir Savin guilty of participating in a terrorist organization, Interfax reported today.

Vladimir Savin was charged under Part 2 of Article 205.5 (participation in the activities of a terrorist organization), Part 1 of Article 30 - Article 205.3 (attempted training in terrorist activities), Article 275.1 (cooperation on a confidential basis with a foreign state, international or foreign organization) and Part 4 of Article 327 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (circulation of forged documents), according to a publication posted today on the court's Telegram channel.

According to the court, in November 2023, Savin established contact with an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and agreed to "carry out his tasks, arrive on the territory of Ukraine and undergo training, including in fire and mine-explosive training."

The purpose of the training, as the court decided, was terrorist attacks on Russian territory, an attempt on the life of a regional Duma deputy, and the collection of information about a sea trade port in the Astrakhan region.

"On December 15, 2023, Savin, while in Astrakhan, sent an application to an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense to join the ranks of the banned terrorist Ukrainian paramilitary group "Legion "Freedom of Russia" and received confirmation of his acceptance into this terrorist organization," the publication states.

Since Savin was restricted from leaving Russia by the decision of the bailiff, he received a "knowingly counterfeit passport of a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan" at the Astrakhan post office, after which he was detained.

"The defendant was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment in a maximum security penal colony with the first "Two years in prison," the court's press service reported.

* The "Freedom of Russia Legion" is designated a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the Supreme Court.
